We saw this one coming even before director Brett Ratner resigned as Academy Awards producer. But following in the footsteps of his Tower Heist helmer, Oscar-nominee Eddie Murphy has also decided to step down from his hosting duties for the 2012 Academy Awards show. The duo just celebrated the successful release of their latest comedy, but Ranter stirred up some controversy for making anti-gay remarks earlier in the week. In a news release issued to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Murphy claims he had looked forward to hosting the program, but that he’s come to terms with “each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers.” Again—no shocker there. The host-less Oscars ceremony is scheduled to air on February 12. Wonder if Billy Crystal is still available?
