2012 Academy Awards

Many actors, along with several film studio execs got their wake-up call today, as the 84th Annual Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning. Leading the pack is Martin Scorcese’s Hugo snagging 11 nods, followed by The Artist with 10 nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor for Jean Dujardin. The biggest surprises came in the Best Picture and Acting categories as unexpected films such as Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Warhorse made the final cut for the year’s best, while actor Gary Oldman earned his first ever Academy Award nomination for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Biggest shockers: Bridesmaids phenomenon Melissa McCarthy grabbing a spot for Best Supporting Actress, along with Jonah Hill’s recognition in the Best Support Actor category.
