Most of you woke up this morning, immediately jumped on Instagram, and were caught off guard by some of the interface changes made to the Android app. Don’t sweat it. The photo-sharing service introduced its redesign today, which is cleaner, faster, and optimized to support a wide selection of Google-operated devices. Instagram 5.1 now loads profile pages twice as quickly, while buttons for the camera’s in-app settings have been moved around to accommodate efficient photo taking.
Here’s what the company shared on its blog:
“We’ve worked to make sure that Instagram feels native and at home on any Android device. We’ve simplified our visuals throughout our app, making use of valuable screen space for small devices and feature phones and rearranging our design to keep buttons within easy reach as you navigate the app on a larger device.”
Unforunately, the Android update doesn’t feature any of the new creative tools brought onto the iOS version, though a spokesperson for the company said it would be “coming soon” to the platform. Download Instagram 5.1 now at Google Play.
