Earlier this year, Land Rover gave us the Evoque: a sleek and sporty compact sedan posh enough for the wealthiest basketball wife, partly because it was designed with input from LR’s new creative director, Victoria Beckham. A new luxury SUV was already expected from the truck manufacturer. But giving the rugged, no frills Defender the Rodeo Drive treatment? Not so much. The DC100 sport has us wondering how well a drop-top off roader can perform in the Defender’s traditional not-a-paved-road-in-500-miles stomping grounds. Thankfully, design director Geryy McGovern was quick to point out that this is only a concept vehicle, which is in no way production-ready, but instead marks the “beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century,” according to Car and Driver.
