Creator Hideo Kojima continues to drop more clues on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, this time speaking with Spaziogames about how gamers will see Snake’s transition into Big Boss.

“This episode is the story of how Snake became Big Boss. It is important for me to explain to people how this hero became a villain for the whole world. So one has to create a very dramatic story.”

Kojima also goes on to reassure that newbies will be able to follow the Phantom Pain’s storyline, despite the series’ infamous narrative being so complex: “It’s a simple story, a story of revenge. Someone gets hurt, and you will have your revenge.”

Considering the short story of Ground Zeroes, it should be interesting to see Snake’s move from hero to villain in the second half of the sequel, especially if players are asked to engage in certain acts that lead to the character’s transformation into the Big Boss. Just some food for thought.

Phantom Pain is rumored to be released sometime in 2015.
