Year: 2002
A cross between the StarTAC and V60 series, the T720 was a head-turner that earned cool points for its gorgeous frame and customization features, allowing users to swag out the handset with changeable front and black plates. A large color screen, downloadable apps, and backlit keyboard attributed to its mass appeal as well.
24. Motorola Droid 4
Year: 2012
The last great QWERTY smartphone nearly perfected the mobile keyboard with responsive tactility and strong keys, making SMS and Facebook updates a pleasure to type. Moto proved its elite hardware pedigree remained intact by squeezing the digital clavier, dual-core processing, and LTE connection into a rugged slider design. Verizon’s speedy 4G network also opened the lane for great call quality and instant web browsing.
23.Motorola C200
Year: 2003
Bland in design and simple in function, the C200 serves as the company’s third highest-selling cellphone ever. So sales alone warrant it a spot on any top Motorola list. Favorable talk time of 6 hours, strong call quality, and a quirky look led to the handset’s global success.
22. Motorola d160
Year: 1997
Back in the mid-90s, you either had the luxury of splurging on premium phones like the StarTAC or settled for more mid-level options like the d160. Those of us from the time period remember it being one of the first PAYG (pay-as-you-go) phones to highlight one of the rarest features at the time: making emergency calls by swapping out the dead battery for AA batteries. Guess you can call it the Boost Mobile phone of its era.
21. Motorola Cliq
Year: 2009
T-Mobile’s third Android offering became a fan favorite amongst messaging mongers courtesy of its awesome social network integration. Solid hardware marked by a 5MP camera with focus, durable keyboard, and the unique D-pad gave the Cliq personality at a time when HTC was dominating the Android market. Moto’s ingenious attempt at binding social media elements with Google’s OS was a huge payoff that would soon be replicated on every major smartphone moving forward.
