The Nintendo 3DS is nearly three and a half months away from launch, and Capcom looks to bank on the 3D handheld by releasing two entries in the Resident Evil franchise—RE: Revalations and RE: The Mercenaries 3D.

Revelations (20 percent completed) takes place on a stranded cruise liner with Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine confirmed as playable characters, while The Mercenaries 3D (70 percent complete) upgrades the popular game mode featured in RE 4 and 5 by incorporating touchscreen functionality, the ability to shoot and move at the same time, and a worldwide online co-op multiplayer mode; with Chris, Hunk and Krauser confirmed as well.

Both games will run on a 3DS-version of the MT Framework engine, which you might have experienced playing other Capcom next-gen titles like Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4. Great engine. No word yet on when Capcom plans on releasing both games, but expect release date info sometime early next year. Until then check out these screens:

[Update] Looking at the new screens, the zealots from RE 4 will be present in Mercenaries 3DS. There’s also rumors of extending online gameplay beyond two players. That’s insane!
