Shredder is not Japanese
The quintessential enemy of the turtles and archrival to Splinter is Oroku Saki, a.k.a. The Shredder. The Shredder is typically of Japanese descent, leading the infamous Foot Clan to carry out his long-standing vendetta against Splinter and his reptilian disciples. In the original comic and animated series, the Shredder has always been a Japanese character and in the live-action films, he has been primarily portrayed by a Japanese actor such as James Saito. However, in this reboot, Shredder is a Caucasian character played by William Fichtner. If his name isn’t familiar, he was recently seen in the cinematic adaptation of The Lone Ranger. This is the first time the character’s been so radically tampered with.
