In an effort to combat Apple’s recent iOS 7 beta launch, Microsoft’s made the call to release its Windows 8.1 preview early to the PC faithful. Available for download now on Microsoft’s website, the software looks to be only available for those living in the US. After installing a small update, your device will restart and direct users to the Windows Store, where you can download it for free.
The biggest attraction here looks to be the return of the start button, a facet many Windows 8 users have complained about since launch. Now you have it. Happy? Hope so. The Metro tiles will also be even more customizable in terms of size to accommodate screen real estate. In addition, all start screen customizations, apps, and files can now all be synched across all Windows 8.1-powered devices.
