For recent high school grads James (Jesse Einsenberg) and Em (Kristen Stewart), working at the Adventureland amusement is the worst summer job they could possibly endure. That was until they met each other. Here’s a romantic comedy that appeals to teens and produces grown-up laughs, with a slight touch of immaturity thrown into the mix. SNL regulars Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, plus a low-key appearance from Ryan Reynolds makes Adventureland one of the year’s sleeper comedies.
It aint Rocky and its nowhere near the Karate Kid. It’s pretty much a Lionheart rip-off. Yet there’s some entertainment value here. G.I. Joe’s Channing Tatum stars as Shawn—a southern teen who travels to the Big Apple looking for a better life. After catching the eye of a scam artist, played by the overcast Terrance Howard, Shawn is recruited to work the underground fight scene, earning big bucks and setting a foundation for him and his love. Could it get any more cheesier? Then again, so was The Last Dragon, and that a 80’s classic.
