Last year’s ultimate bromance action film has had a sequel in development for some time, with every other big 80s and 90s action star supposedly attached to the Lionsgate project. Now comes news that three huge action stars might be set to join The Expendables 2 elite: John Travolta, Chuck Norris, and yes, Jean Claude Van Damme. The latest casting news comes from an interview with CEO of NU Boyana studios, David Varod, via Novinite, who apparently ran down the list of superstars slated to appear in the sequel. Know that this doesn’t mean they’ll actually be in the film, but we’re almost betting that all three will be a part of it somehow: cameo or main role.
Sadly, Jet Li claims he will not return, as he felt his role in the first film was too limited, but Jason Statham, Sylvester Stalone, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Mickey Rourke are already slated to come back.
The Expendables 2 is slated for release on Aug. 17, 2012.
