Third Party Beats Nintendo at Patenting Wii-Football Controller

Somebody captured a green mushroom over Nintendo. Accessories’ company CTA Digital got a 1-up over the videogame giant by submitting a patent on the Wii football peripheral first. Tagged the “Soft-Football,” CTA looks to utilize the Wii’s motion-sensor capability to make titles like Backyard Football and Blitz: The League more realistic. The controller bears a sponge-like feel (like the Nerf Football) and should probably be available sometime this year. We’re guessing it’ll hit the field when Madden ’11 hits store shelves.
