It’s being reported that Fast and Furious film director, Justin Lin, is on board to helm Star Trek 3, which has also gained an official release date. Lin has replaced previous director Roberto Orci, though Orci remains on the project as a producer. Paramount is on track to release the film near the 50th anniversary of the television show, all set for July 8, 2016. The slot looks clear of competition right now, aside from Steven Spielberg’s The BFG and David Yates’ Tarzan opening the week before. Ice Age 5 and the updated Bourne(Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are set to return) will be opening the following week. There are rumors that Patrick McKay has left the franchise entirely, but no word on if J.D. Payne will return. We can hope with the 50th anniversary approaching that Justin Lin can do the franchise justice.
