The Goodwood Festival of Speed has just played host to the official debut of the Porsche 918 Spyder. One of the expo’s biggest supercars on display, the high-speed stunner flaunts a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a mid-mounted 4.6-L V8 engine, two electric motors, and a 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. All that power results in the engine generating 608 hp and 530 Nm of torque, with the motors revving 156 hp and 129 hp. Speed-wise, the 918 Spyder shoots at 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and features a top speed of 211 mph.
Porsche has also gone on record stating the 918 Spyder will provide the “gene pool” for future models—meaning a lightweight construction, hybrid technology, and updated traction systems. Now if only we can get a release date and price tag, we’ll be good money.
