Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Hyundai, Subaru, Smart, and Honda will be participating in the 8th Annual Design Challenge at the 2011 Auto Show, all showcasing future concept designs based on the premise of creating Hollywood’s Hottest New Movie Car. One of the judges present on the panel is Art Director for Pixar Animation Studios, Jay Shuster.

Leading the pack is Mercedes’ F1-inspired Silver Arrow Concept, which the creators say features “a diagonally configured, hub-less roller track for ‘Omni-Directional’ manoeuvring.” On the other side, Maybach’s Berline Concept tackles a futuristic carriage design inspired by its GL-class and is pitched to be controlled “remotely via satellite by the Maybach Virtual Chauffeur Centre.” Wow. The LA Auto Show is looking promising so far.
