Beijing Apple Store Egged

It’s amazing how many insane people turn out for an Apple product launch. Seriously. Beijing’s flagship Apple Store saw a crowd of mobilephiles impatiently waiting overnight in freezing tempertures to pick up the iPhone 4S, which turned into an angry mob once the store failed to open at its scheduled time of 7 a.m, stating it would not sell the smartphone and stay closed due to the oversized crowd. In response, consumers egged the store and scowled employees through the window.

There was also speculation of migrant workers being hired by scalpers in teams to purchase iPhone 4S units and resale them at a markup value on the black market. Think Apple caught wind of the scheme? We wouldn’t put it past them.

“We were unable to open our store at Sanlitun due to the large crowd, and to ensure the safety of our customers and employees, iPhone will not be available in our retail stores in Beijing and Shanghai for the time being,” said Apple sokeswoman Carolyn Wu. That’s pretty F’d up.
