After kicking ass at the box-office, Will smith’s pet project looks to expand into a franchise, as a sequel is in the works for “The Karate Kid.”Deadline reports the following:
After The Karate Kid’s opening weekend gross of $56 million blew past its $40 million budget, a sequel to the Jaden Smith-Jackie Chan-starrer seemed inevitable. Sure enough, agency sources tell me that Sony’s Columbia Pictures execs are meeting with writers to pitch their ideas on where to take the second installment.
Director Harald Zwart claimed at a recent press conference he’s down to do another film. Will Smith’s character pull the opposite of the original sequel and make a trip back to the states? We’ll see.
