Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn recently made an appearance at Atlanta’s Dragon Con, revealing some secrets about the film, which has recently been named the highest grossing movie of 2014. In the interview, he discussed his original idea for Stan Lee’s signature Marvel movie cameo, potential spin-off ideas he has for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and how no other hero from Earth, including Ms. Marvel, fits into his vision of the intergalactic anti-heroic outlaws.
“Originally, Gunn had planned to have Lee in one of the Collector’s exhibits. Groot would then look at the exhibit aghast, to which Lee would flick off the large tree creature…Gunn stated that he wanted to steer clear of “earthlings” in his side of the Marvel universe, allowing Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) to be the main focus from Earth. The plan, according to Gunn, is to introduce new female characters into the world of Guardians as soon as he could.”
Also, Gunn stated that one of his passion projects, Thunderbolts has been put on the backburner, for he has decided to focus on other promising ideas to incorporate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as We3 and Hit Monkey.
