It’s no secret that while the HTC One M8 is both a remarkable smartphone and helping the Taiwanese telecommunications company gain some momentum on the market, it’s still not enough to get HTC out of its financial rut. Rather than switch up its mobile objective, HTC looks to shift its direction by entering a new territory: extreme sports camera. Word is the company will take on GoPro by releasing its own 16MP waterproof shooter sometime this fall.

Sources reveal the camera will be loaded with full specs and features, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi integrations seem obvious here. It should also be made compatible with smartphones and both popular platforms in Android and iOS.

Whether we’ll see it launch before the GoPro Hero4+ releases is unknown. Let’s see if HTC makes it official heading into its October event, which is where they’re scheduled to showoff its rumored Nexus tablet.
