South Side Chicago Native George Carruthers made history when is invention was used for the Apollo 16 mission to record radiation from the UV spectrum on the moon. In addition, it produced over 200 photos of the Earth’s atmosphere: including the magnetic poles and some of the most defined images of our planet’s ionosphere.
