Co-creator for the Deadpool spin-off, Rob Liefeld, chatted with MTV news about the possibility of bringing the deadly assassin to the bring screen. Moving forward with an origin story that takes place before the Weapon X program, Liefeld told MTV:
“Here’s the huge problem with anything existing: You don’t hire Ryan Reynolds, who the ladies love and who has such a pretty face, to put behind a mask for the entire movie…We’ll have an adventure with him in the present tense, dressed in his costume, probably breaking the fourth wall, with some kick-ass action…A past love story, a past spy story, his own story of vengeance – when he said [in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’] that ‘I brought swords to my girlfriend’s wedding,’ there’s something there.”
Can Reynolds get it done as the main attraction of a million dollar action film? Could be worse, he could be replaced with Vin Diesel or Timothy Olyphant.
