Most of us remember Paramount Pictures regrets of killing off Channing Tatum’s character in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. In fact, the studio knew they F’d up after acknowledging the young star’s blockbuster success—having three films hit the $100-million grossing mark in 2012. So the company decided to push back almost an entire year and shot extra scenes with Tatum to leave the door open for a possible return. And as expected, audiences could see Duke back in action for G.I. Joe 3

Director John Chu spoke with MTV News on the possibility of bringing back Duke for the planned threequel: “Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who’s coming back and who’s not.”

Whether Tatum returns, Chu ensures G.I. Joe 3 is “gonna be a really fun movie. We’re taking it in a whole new direction.” Looks like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has another onscreen sidekick.
