Words by Ian Freeman
July has been a busy month for the comic world with such things as San Diego Comic-Con, Batman Day, and a number of new books hitting comic book shelves. So as we bring July to a close and start looking towards the last month of the summer, there are some titles we look forward to picking up today, just to fight those summertime blues.
Low #1
Another Rick Remender (Black Science) creation, Low #1 is a sci-fi fantasy mash-up that is set at the bottom of the ocean, where the human race has retreated to after the sun destroyed the Earth’s surface. A probe that was sent into space to find other suitable planets has finally returned and teams from two of Earth’s remaining cities are in a race to the surface to retrieve it.
Harley Quinn #8
One of our favorite psychopaths, Harley Quinn is back and this time she’s finally found the hit men who have been after her since the start of her series. Now the only question is: What will Joker’s maniacal main squeeze do with them?
Justice League #32
Making their first appearance in the New 52, may we introduce the Doom Patrol. Everyone’s favorite bad guy gone good, Lex Luthor continues his acclimation to his life as a one of the world’s greatest heroes as they search for the mysterious power threatening to unravel the world. But are his sights really set on the Dark Knight? And are the Dark Knight’s targeted back at Luthor? Plus, someone else is targeting Luthor and his new allies – a man who believes he is Luthor’s superior in every way…and he may be right!
Outcast #2
Robert Kirkman’s new foray into the horror genre continues. And after the first book, we are hooked. This time around we continue to explore the demonic possession Kyle encountered last issue and what that means about the time is his mother has been possessed.
Guardians of the Galaxy 100th anniversary One Shot
The next installment of Marvels’ look into how their universe will look in 2067 focuses on the Guardians of the Galaxy. This time the team including Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon and a female Star-Lord, will join forces with Charlie-27 and Iron Man (sans Tony Stark) to stop a more powerful Galactus who has re-absorbed the powers he bestowed on the Silver Surfer. Silver Galactus’ hunger must be fed and he is looking at the Guardian’s home base as a snack.
