Now that Guardians of the Galaxy has hit theaters to universal acclaim, Marvel fans are already wondering if (and when) we’ll see the intergalactic badasses team up with Marvel Studios’ other elite superhero gang: the Avengers. The cast of the newly released blockbuster has high hopes of the collaboration coming to fruition, primarily director James Gunn, who spoke with Yahoo about the possible mash-up. Here’s what he had to share:
“We talked about all sorts of possibilities. I know what the basic plan is. That could or could include a couple of Avengers and all the Guardians. But, we do inhabit the same universe and they’re pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other.”
Speaking on the Avengers, Marvel producer Kevin Feige has confirmed with Slashfilm that Thanos latest appearance in Guardians will most likely be his last appearance for a while, as he’ll be absent from the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron:
“He’s not part of Avengers 2. I think Thanos does what he wants, and shows up where he wants to, and I’m not going to tell him otherwise. You don’t know exactly; smirking at the end of Avengers. By the way, we’re still making Avengers 2, so nothing’s definitive one way or the another, actually.”
Sounds like we can expect both the Avengers/Guardians meet-up and Thanos return heading into Phase 3 of Marvel’s film plan.
