It’s One of Capcom’s Few Valuable Franchises Left

For a company with so many killer franchises, it’s let a lot of them fall by the wayside recently. Mega Man remains MIA and Devil May Cry might be dead after the commercial-failed reboot. The only classic property still pumping out games is Street Fighter, and Capcom is obviously trying to milk that series for all it’s worth. Resident Evil seems to be the last one that’s straddling the fine line of relevance, making it the best option right now to push. Between 1996 and 2012, there were only four years in which a new Resident Evil game was not released—amounting to 19 distinct games in 16 years. When you factor in remakes and updated re-releases, the total jumps up to 25. Then there are the five (soon to be six) live-action Resident Evil films, two CGI movies, several comic series, and manga spin-offs. Seeing how the franchise could produce so much across several media platforms shows the strength of the franchise.
