SOCOM II

19. SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs

Platform(s): PlayStation 2
Year: 2003
The SOCOM series was instrumental in making the first-person tactical shooter a real genre during the sixth generation of gaming. Every PlayStation 2 zealot who ran to GameStop and purchased the console’s ill-fated broadband adapter just to play the series can attest to this. It’s hard to question the authenticity of the game when part of the creative team consists of the Naval Special Warfare Command. That aside, SOCOM II was known for being a brilliant PS2 title that stood true to form and allowed players to command a team of elite seals and engage in deep, exciting multiplayer modes, even with its 16-player restriction. —IF
