1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Platform(s): Mac, PC, PlayStaiton 3, and Xbox 360
Year: 2007
Making the transition from the World War spectrum into, well, the present day, Modern Warfare embodied the virtual facets we all clamored for from a military game. Infinity Ward’s tour de force threw us in different time frames ranging from flashback missions in post-Chernobyl to a civil war-torn Russia in 2011, culminating into one of the most intense single-player campaigns ever offered, filled with action-packed sequences and a compelling narrative. However, it was in MW’s multiplayer experience where the game’s true innovativeness shined through the additions of “killstreaks” that allowed us to partake in calling in airstrikes, helicopter support, and other cool warfare abilities. Guess we can only pray that Advanced Warfare will share the impact. —AB
