Production Weekly reports Universal Pictures is set to start pre-production on the prequel to the John Carpenter classic. The Thing, this March. This story will follow a group of researchers along the Norweigian Antarctic facility who dredge up the shape-shifting alien from the arctic ice. Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer will provide the script, with Matthijs Van Hejningen taking of directing duties.
