Volkswagen had initially looked to release a subcompact SUV based on the Suzuki SX4 and name it the Rockton a few years back, but the deal was practically called off between the two auto companies. Fast-forward to 2013, looks like we could possibly see the vehicle resurrected, with German publication Handelsblatt stating we should look out for two Volkswagen crossover models within the near future. One should be fit to the compact Tiguan, while a mid-sized model can be scaled to that of the VW Touareg collection.
The publication didn’t name any legit sources, but indicated the subcompact crossover will be built on the “underpinnings of the Polo” and become the Nissan Juke and Opel Mokka’s biggest threat when released. Rumored pricing is set to start at $26,000 in Germany, with a US version possibly reaching a $31,500 price tag like the Tiguan. Guess we’ll find out when VM makes an official announcement sometime this summer, hopefully.
