Retro-Active: River City Ransom

What happens when you combine an action beat’em up with role playing elements? You produce the NES classic River City Ransom. For high school teens Alex and Ryan, life in River City High aint no joke. So when Ryan’s g/f Cyndi gets kidnapped by local gang leader Slick, the duo shake down the city, snatching chains and bashing brains.

Encounter nine rival gangs and stomp’em back to the stone age with your fists of fury. Yank bats, 2 X 4’s and a number of other weapons from your adversaries. Purchase special moves and spa treatments with your opponents lunch money, as you get your knuckle game tight for the several boss battles you’ll encounter. The difficulty is no walk in the park, as RCR has proven to be one of the more challenging 8-bit games of its time, and still is till this day.

River City Ransom stands out from its peers (Double Dragon, Kung-Fu Master and Final Fight) because of its in-depth gameplay. The game’s password system works great for storing stats and special abilities, and has been updated to a save system with the latest GameBoy Adavence remake. They don’t make’em like these anymore!
