Racing games were a rare commodity on the Super Nintendo, but all it took was a high-speed futuristic racer to push the boundaries of the system to a higher level—that was F-Zero.

Though the game’s character list was limited to just four players, there is no denying the number of times we found ourselves jumping back into the driver’s seat of Dr. Stewart, Pico, Samueai Goroh and franchise player Captain Falcon. From the unavoidable land minds to the always-annoying slip zones, F-Zero redefined the concept of difficult.

A kick-ass soundtrack, addictive game play and top-notch graphics made F-Zero one of the SNES’ premier titles. It pushed the system’s technology to new boundaries and could be considered the Mecca of all super speed racing games. Captain Falcon continues to rule the circuit.
