New Zune Phone Coming?

Really?

Update: We were right to include the “?” Turns out the blogoshpere got played by some dumbass Apple fanboy and the above tweet is a load of shit. But here’s the good news.

The above tweet was posted earlier this morning by the Microsoft Office 2010 team. With some dubious advice against the purchase of the Palm Pre and iPhone, we’re assuming that Microsoft is finally planning on stepping it’s handheld product game up and giving Apple a run for it’s money.

Earlier this year Brian Seitz, a Microsoft Zune development team member broke the news on his Twitter page that the company had plans of relaseing new Zune hardware sometime this year; one that would hopefully provide the market with a competent competitor for Apple’s prize cow: the iPod Touch/iPhone. Most of us believed he was referring to the rumored 4th Generation Zune, the Zune HD. But with this mornings Tweet –oddly enough from the Microsoft Office software team — all indicators hint towards a Zune /smartphone mash up.

The Zune HD was rumored to come equipped with a 16:9 aspect ratio, AMOLED capacitive touch screen with HDMI out, a Nividia chipset giving it the ability to play 3D Xbox games, a full HTML web browser with the ability play flash videos and a 16GB and 32GB model. Slap some smart phone functionality on top of that and the Zune Phone would easily be enough to sway research firm, Piper Jaffray’s most recent survey findings that state: 100% of teens plan on buying an iPod within the next 12 months.

Of course Microsft is reaming tight lipped about the possibility of the Zune Phone and the Zune HD, so we’ll have to keep are fingers crossed and hope that in June they will release the awesomeness that is the speculated Zune Phone. Until then we’ll be stuck with these idiotic, 3rd gen Zune ads.

The concept of an existing library of music must be foreign to them…
