After whetting our appetite for ultraviolence and beautiful next-gen graphics with an epic reveal trailer, NetherRealm Studios has made Mortal Kombat X available for pre-order on the revamped Mortal Kombat website.

Though confusingly, several different retailers offer conflicting release dates for the game. Newegg.com states the game will be released on December 31st of this year, while Best Buy gives the launch date as December 31st, 2015. Meanwhile, the Amazon page promises a June 30, 2015 release. Given the wide disparity between these dates, it seems likely that all of these are just placeholders and the actual release date is still up in the air at this point.

The revamped Mortal Kombat website also features new art of series co-creator Ed Boon’s favorite character, Scorpion. These highly detailed renders are possibly meant to showcase the “all-new graphics engine” NetherRealm’s created for the game.

With details about the game are still scarce, Mortal Kombat X is expect to be making its first public appearance at E3 2014. We can expect to see more characters announced, deeper insight into the game’s story, and of course, plenty of exciting new fatalities.
