Everyone is still in a state of shock over Warner Bros. decision to cast Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. The news obviously didn’t go over well with fans of The Dark Knight trilogy, which sparked a number of online petitions to prevent the actor from donning the Batsuit. We’re a cruel batch, aren’t we?

Anyways, series regular Morgan Freeman recently sat down with USA Today to share his thoughts on the call call, admitting even he was surprised by the news: “This is the first I am hearing of it. My first reactions are ‘Wow’ and ‘Good luck…After the trilogy, I thought that no one would try it again for a few years more to let this whole thing die down. Because it’s still there. So I don’t know, I hope Ben does well.”

The Oscar-winning actor also discussed the possibility of his character returning for comic book mash-up and reprising the role: “If the new movie does have a Lucius Fox I don’t think it’s going to be me. It doesn’t seem to work to mix characters in the movies. If you are going to change the lead character, you’re probably going to change all the characters.”

The Man of Steel sequel looks to hit theaters Summer 2015.
