We reported on the rumors of actor/director Mel Gibson possibly jumping onboard as the next major villain in The Expendables 3. Looks like several foreign news outlets (bnews.bg, novinite.bg, m.standartnews.com) have all confirmed his casting in the film.

Here’s a translation from blitz.bg’s report done by ExpendablesPremiere.com:

“Mel Gibson himself will join the cast of “The Expendables 3”, which automatically means that the megastar will come in August here. Hollywood sex symbol will visit Bulgaria for the first time, but released as a “Standard” can not wait to see the unique scenery in cinema center.

Gibson was interviewed for our country Hristo Zhivkov and Hristo Shopov who participated in the hit film, “The Passion of the Christ”. Even then, Mel not only left with a great impression of the actors, but then was told that it is curious to find himself in Bulgaria. The author of ultraekshana Sylvester Stallone initially invited Gibson as a director. But in April revealed that Mel refused to be behind the camera. Gibson is rumored to be the villain in the new part of the saga. So he will succeed Jean-Claude Van Damme, who last time was bad.”

Adding to the latest casting news, Dolph Lundgren confirmed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon he was reprising his role as Gunner in the threequel. He also stated that filming would begin this fall. Interesting tidbit, especially since the report above and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent claim have the film shooting in August. This is an interesting development.
