21. Home Security system
Inventor: Marie Van Brittan-Brown
Year: 1968
It’s good knowing that before Antoine Dodson warned us to hide our kids and wives, someone was concerned about home security. That woman was the late Marie Van Brittan-Brown. The Queens, New York native, along with her husband Albert Brown, invented the first-ever home security system in 1966. While today’s systems rely on top-of-the-line technology, her simple and effective system was equipped with 4-peep holes and a camera that slides up and down to catch the view through each peep hole. It also came bundled with a remote control to unlatch the door. Brittan-Brown’s production serves as the blueprint and foundation to modern security systems.
