4. Carbon-filament Light Bulb
Inventor: Lewis Latimer
Year: 1881
A number of inventors have laid claim to being the creator of the light bulb. Not to steal Thomas Edison’s thunder (get it), but the light bulb wouldn’t be the household name it is today without carbon filament. And that claim goes directly to Lewis Latimer, who just so happened to be Edison’s original draftsman. The invention made light bulbs cheaper to produce, significantly efficient, and more practical for every day life. Let there be light.
