GM has become notorious for ousting its upcoming cars days (and even weeks) ahead of the biggest auto expos. So rather than wait to unwrap the new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in the Jacob Javits Center this week, the carmaker is unveiling its new sports car in advance.

Billed as “the most powerful convertible ever produced by Chevrolet,” the Z06 comes equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 that pushes 625 hp and 635 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, it features a seven-speed manual and offers a new eight-speed automatic transmission, which Chevy says is faster than Porsche’s PDK. Chief engineer Tadge Juechter says the frame benefits from advancements made in “computer-aided engineering, metallurgy, and manufacturing techniques.” The power-folding roof opens and closes at speeds up to 30 mph, with dual-accent panels furnished in either carbon flash or carbon fiber.

Some of the other notable features include the option of steel or carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, track-ready suspension, and more. Expect to see a closer look at the beauty this week when the 2014 NY Auto Show kicks off.
