Many would agree that the BMW i8 is by far the car of the future. Think differently? Then we recommend watching our exclusive preview of the vehicle during the 2014 NY Auto Show. But in any case, it embodies the auto facets many of us clamor for heading into the coming years. Which makes this latest report of the BMW i9 hitting the road in 2016 even more exciting.
BMW Blog suggests the German automaker will launch the supercar two years from now and could be a four-door sports car based on the i8. The only details shared on the car is it would presumably flaunt a carbon-fiber structure and the i8’s plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine, an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. That should equate to a maximum output of 363 PS (266kW) and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) of torque.
