Star Wars: Battlefront Preview Remains Earthbound

Though the new Battlefront will be the successor to what is widely regarded as the greatest Star Wars game of all time, EA is doing a terrible job of hyping the game. The trailer shown at its E3 conference was a surprisingly mundane (and subdued) affair that highlighted the developers’ efforts to capture the look and feel of the original films rather than showcase gameplay (or characters). Don’t get us wrong; we fully recognize that trying to recapture the tone of the original trilogy is absolutely a noble goal. However, when we watch a trailer for a game with Star Wars and Battlefront in its title, we expect to see video of battles set in a galaxy far, far away, not people reverently examining film props. DICE would have done its audience better service if they provided gameplay footage showing how they had replicated the feel of the Star Wars films, rather than just telling us how they wanted to do that.
