The Wii U Dry Spell Isn’t Ending Any Time Soon

No secret that the Wii U continues to struggle on the sales front, and that it’s painfully anemic library of games is the cause. Fortunately, Nintendo announced a bunch of great-looking titles that should hopefully fill up the Wii U’s shelf. Unfortunately, very few of those are going to be released any time soon. While Hyrule Warriors is coming out in late September, the new Legend of Zelda game isn’t scheduled to be released until 2015 at the earliest. The reveal of a new Star Fox game for the Wii U sounds awesome. However, the demo shown at E3 was so rough and unpolished that there’s no way the final game will be released any time in next 18 months. How about the artsy-looking Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Yoshi’s Wooly World? Two more titles slated for 2015 releases. Xenoblade Chronicles X? Also 2015. Mario Maker—well, you get the idea. If Nintendo wants to make up the millions they’ve lost on its next-gen experiment, it needs to be more focused on getting great games out sooner rather than later.
