At the end of Arkham City, we saw the Joker removed as the head of the Batman’s rogue gallery. However this gives the developers at Rocksteady the chance to give a new villain the spotlight as a foil to the caped crusader. The question however is who would fit the role?

Now of course the thought of making a brand new character was enticing, but instead Rocksteady chose to give a rather unappreciated villain the role. This means now Batman’s adversary to beat will be none other than the Scarecrow. The studio gave this quote to explain its decision

“Joker going was a challenge, but we left Scarecrow out of Arkham City for a reason so he’s back in as the big bad and it’s great for us to bring him back. He has so many iconic moments in the first game, to have him back as the Big Bad is really cool. He’s a great mirror for Batman, as they both use fear as a weapon of choice. There’s a dichotomy there. Then working with DC to bring the Arkham Knight to life has been amazing. We were super excited and it’s been a huge honor for us to do something this big.”

So does this mean other big-named villains will get more imposing roles or will they be just as important as the other games? Only time will tell, but so far Arkham Knight is looking to be an amazing continuation for this franchise.
