As if adding Electro, Rhino, and the unknown presences of Norman and Harry Osborne wasn’t enough, now comes news of a possible fifth threat present in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. On the Daily Bugle’s Tumblr page is a report based on Oscorp’s stock climb, which has been attributed to “significant advancements in robotics by the head of the engineering division, Spencer Smythe.” Those unfamiliar with the comics will soon learn that Mr. Smythe is the creator of the “spider-slayers,” a series of robots optimized to kill Spider-Man. Though signed onto the film, speculation leads us to believe either actor Colm Feore or B.J. Novak will tackle the role, but it’s still unclear as to what characters they will portray in the sequel. This is one Marvel project that has become prone to plot leaks.
