Steve Ballmer Microsoft Retiring

Throughout his tenure as Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer has given us some of the most comically wild and straight gutter moments we’ve ever witnessed in the tech industry. From the infamous Monkey Dance incident to the time he downplayed the iPhone, the man has become instrumental to Microsoft’s moderate success over the past decade, while living up to his braggadocios demeanor. Now the man running the PC dynasty is finally looking to hang it all up within the next 12 months. That is until the company can find a successor.

Ballmer touched on his decision in the following statement:

“There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time…We have embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and we have an amazing senior leadership team. My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company’s transformation to a devices and services company. We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction.”

Something tells us the recent financial disaster surrounding the failure of the Surface RT, which cost the company millions, might have played into this equation. Better to call it quits before getting the pink slip, right? Oh well, cheers to you my dude!
