Simply Put, Capcom Needs It
At this point, the company can really use a win. Its console games have been going through a steep sales slump over the last couple of years, with games like DmC: Devil May Cry and Lost Planet 3 falling short of expected sales. In fact, Capcom is doing so poorly that shareholders recently decided to remove safeguards designed to prevent outside takeovers, essentially putting itself up for sale. The downward spiral was evident in Capcom’s virtual non-presence at this year’s E3. They would only benefit from the game’s large, pre-existing fan base. And from an economic standpoint, it’s money in the bank.
