PSA: LeBron James has be dethroned as the cover athlete for the NBA 2K series. That title will now go to the NBA’s 2013-14 MVP Kevin Durant, who has just landed the front packaging spot for NBA 2K15. 2K Sports made it official yesterday, which was perfectly timed with the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar accepting his award that same afternoon. Durant’s had a monstrous year and also wrestled the year-end award from James by averaging 32 PPG, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assist per game.

Durant shared his joy over the announcement by saying, “I begged them to put me on the cover. I really think nobody plays the game as much as I do.” He also went on to discuss his love of the My Player mode with the press during a phone conference: “Taking a guy through a season, getting drafted, sitting on the bench, becoming a starter, and trying to get better—I feel that’s how it is as a real NBA player. It’s just so real.”

It should be noted that this isn’t the athlete’s first cover, as EA put him on the front of NCAA March Madness ’08 and then tapped him to be part of its rebranded NBA Elite franchise in 2010, which was cancelled a week before its launch. Not to mention, this is his second time sharing the 2K stage, landing the 2K13 cover with Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin two years back. NBA 2K15 is set to hit the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on October 7.

Congrats homie!
