From the exquisite stealth workings to its use of in-game graphics rendered for plot-driven cut scenes, Sons of Liberty was one of those few titles to generate an insurmountable hype that it smoothly lived up to. Hideo Kojima’s sequel is known as the first true example of a postmodern video game—touching on numerous social themes (AI, conspiracy theories, military maneuvering, etc.) and instituting prominent gaming features such as the cover system and laser sight, which have became staples for today’s shooters. —AM
