10. Desert Strike
Platform(s): Mac, PC, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo
Year: 1992
Praised for its fun gameplay, impressive graphics, and terrific sound, Desert Strike stood out as one of the greatest and most overlooked titles of the 16-bit generation. Its blend of action and strategy intensified the battle environment, which placed gamers behind the controls of a lone helicopter as it sets off to destroy enemy weapons and rescue POWs. Launching during the recent events of the Gulf War, the game was seen as commercial success as many people sought an escape from the real mayhem that transpired overseas. Overall, Desert Strike was great fun and boasted great mechanics that were ahead of its time. —JR
