Cementing its place in history as the “godfather of 3D shooters,” Wolfenstein 3D was remembered for its fast-paced action, technical prowess, and widely absurd plot. The game saw a soldier named BJ Blazkowicz, a man hell-bent on eradicating the Nazi regime. Retro gamers hold Id Software’s IP in high regard, along with several established gaming outlets—having made several “Best of” lists throughout the past three decades. Not to mention Adolf Hitler’s appearance remains one of the best boss battles ever. Fighting Mecha-Hitler is just pure enjoyment. —JR
