4. The Flappy Bird Obsession (and Disappearance)
What’s there to say about the mobile game—it’s basically about a bird that you must navigate through Mario-esque pipes without hitting them. And it just so happened to become everyone’s addiction at one point. After blowing up on Android and iOS, the game was taken down by its developer Dong Nguyen three months later, leading to a number of clones making their way to the app stores. What you may not know is the game was pulled by Nguyen because of the stress he experienced with it. This was truly one of the industry’s saddest highlights, as Flappy Bird “addicts” sent death threats to him over their addiction for the title. The obsession behind Flappy Bird still remains unexplainable.
